UN Foundation and UNA-USA Salute 21st Century UN Advocates
For 53 years, the United Nations Association of the USA (UNA-USA) annual awards dinner has brought together policymakers, diplomats, UN supporters, business leaders, and celebrities. The event calls attention to the vital role the UN plays in helping the global community advance peace, prosperity and justice, as well as recognizes individuals and corporations for their outstanding leadership in advancing UN causes—from global health and economic development, to education and environmental sustainability. In 1998, Ted Turner was honored and, during his acceptance speech, announced his historic $1 billion pledge to the UN, resulting in the United Nations Foundation; UNA-USA is a program of the UN Foundation. UNA-USA and the UN Foundation have teamed up to host the dinner for the past two years.
