Variety
For its leadership in answering the UN Secretary-General’s call to activate the creative community in solving global problems

variety
Recognized and respected throughout the world of show business, Variety is the premier source of business entertainment news. Since 1905, the most influential leaders in the industry have turned to Variety for timely, credible and straightforward news and analysis, information vital to their professions.

In answer to the Secretary-General’s call to action for the entertainment industry to use its megaphone to bring attention to the world’s most pressing problems, Variety has actively leveraged its business assets and relationships to support the work of the United Nations and United Nations Foundation.

As part of its extensive support for the UN Creative Community Outreach Initiative, and in fulfilling a five year commitment of $1 million to support the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), Variety has led the charge in engaging content creators, studio and network executives and talent in the UN’s work. Starting with exposure through its “Power of” franchise (“Power of Women”, “Power of Comedy”, “Power of Youth”), Variety has thoughtfully highlighted charities whose work ties back to the MDGs, including UN Foundation campaigns like Girl Up and Nothing But Nets. Variety has consistently come up with innovative ways to engage top caliber content creators with global issues ranging from wrapping Variety in a bed net for all subscribers on World Malaria Day with ads and editorial explanation inside, to offering rare editorial coverage of their Publisher/Editor-in-Chief’s visit to a refugee camp.

From hosting intimate creative community think tank dinners to running PSAs for UN agencies at film screenings for Academy Award voters, Variety continues to put the UN at the forefront of philanthropic thinking and storytelling in the entertainment industry.
