Stand #WithRefugees

The United Nations needs action from Americans now more than ever.

We are already seeing severe consequences from the U.S. Refugee Program suspension announced on January 27th. According to UNHCR (the UN’s refugee agency), in just one week, over 800 refugees who were set to make America their new home instead found themselves barred from travelling to the U.S.

UNHCR estimates that 20,000 refugees in precarious circumstances might have been resettled to the United States during the 120 days covered by the suspension.

In total, more than 65 million people have been forcibly displaced worldwide, creating the worst refugee crisis since World War II.

The truth is, no one wants to be a refugee. Thousands of families have been forced to flee their homes and leave everything behind – everything except their dreams for a safer future.

The U.S. cannot deprive refugees of the one thing they still have: hope.

UNA-USA encourages members to stand #WithRefugees. Here’s how:

1. Tweet to your Members of Congress urging them to take action and stand #WithRefugees today.

2. Change your Facebook profile picture to celebrate Albert Einstein, one of the many refugees who have made our country strong, and remind your fellow citizens who we leave behind when we turn our back on refugees. Click here to download the image and for additional instructions.
