United Nations Day with Jack Kimball from The Stanley Foundation

UNA Iowa

Thursday, October 24, 2013
For the last five decades, Colombia has been wracked by war.  Tens of thousands of people have been killed and millions more displaced as successive governments battled Marxist rebels for control of the country.  Despite failed attempts to defeat the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Columbia (FARC) rebels militarily and previous botched negotiations, a potlicial solution to one of the world's longest conflicts may be near.

What are the current trends in the conflict?  Where does the United Nations fit in?  How are the peace talks going between rebels and the government?  What role can the United Nations play in any possible deal?

This program is hosted by the Linn County United Nations Association.  Refreshments will be served.

When:  October 24, 7:00pm

Where:  Cedar Rapids Public Library, Beems Meeting Room A, 450 Fifth Avenue SE, Cedar Rapids
