Invitation for Nominations Achievements that Alleviate Poverty, Inequity and Disparities Awards will be presented for outstanding accomplishments that fulfill the United Nations “Millennium Development Goals.”

UN Day Dinner and Awards Ceremonies
Sunday, 27 October 2013
at International House of University of Cal, Berkeley

1. The nominee will be an organization, individual, public entity or other group based, or with major activities, in the East Bay of SF (Alameda and Contra Costa counties).
2. Outstanding accomplishments during the past year (and previously) which contributed to the achievement of the UN’s Millennium Development Goals (MDG). Emphasis in 2013 will be given to exemplary activities that contributed to alleviate poverty, inequity and income disparities. [visit: www.un.org/millenniumgoals] 3. Awardees’ activities will have created substantial benefit principally outside the United States. An award may be given for activities which additionally fulfill the spirit and purposes of the MDGs locally or in the USA.
4. Special consideration will be given to youth or student organizations and their program activities. 5. The nomination must cite specific actions which: (for example)
- made a demonstrable direct impact on causes and consequences of poverty and inequity;
- had a catalytic effect on others (partners, local organizations or groups fighting disparities);
- created conditions for sustainable improvements;
- can be validated as exemplary by third parties or by the recipients.

Nominations with supporting information are invited as soon as possible and no later than 10 August, 2013. The completed nomination may be up to two (2) pages in length, and must contain the following:

1. Name and contact information for the nominee and the person(s) nominating;
2. A citation of the specific actions relevant to the criteria, and any other substantiating information, e.g.
feedback from beneficiaries, photographs, newspaper articles, references or reports. Self-nominations are acceptable. Submissions must be received by UNA-USA, East Bay, 2539 Telegraph Ave., Berkeley, CA 94704, or sent to UNAEastBay@sbcglobal.net or herb@behrstock.com.

JUDGING: A panel of judges will determine the number of awards and select winners. In addition to the winners, the panel may acknowledge runners-up. Awardees will be notified in advance by UNA-USA East Bay.

PRESENTATION OF GLOBAL CITIZEN AWARDS: Honorees are expected to attend the 8th annual UN Day Celebration and Awards Dinner on Sunday, 27 October, 2013 at International House of UC Berkeley. Each honoree will be featured, and invited to address participants – who annually fill the auditorium to capacity.
