Ambassador Ronald K. McMullen: Diplomacy, Indigenous Peoples, and Human Rights

Wednesday, November 28, 2012
Location: Room 1117, University Capitol Centre, University of Iowa Memorial Union

Ambassador McMullen has over thirty years of experience in the foreign service, and has been stationed in Sudan, Sri Lanka, Gabon, South Africa, and Burma.

In his career he has traveled and worked in over 91 countries.  He was visiting professor at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point and the Diplomat in Residence at the University of Texas at Austin prior to becoming a visiting professor to the University of Iowa.  Ambassador McMullen believes that the key characteristics of working in the foreign services are exploring genes and a service orientation. He will be discussing the rights of indigenous peoples and how the foreign services works to protect these rights.

The Nov 28 program is sponsored by Iowa UNA and hosted by the UI Center for Human Rights.
