The Universal Declaration of Human Rights Comes to Alameda

Location: Alameda Science & Technology Institute (ASTI high school), Alameda, CA

A Human Rights Day presentation will take place at Alameda Science & Technology Institute, with nearly 200 students engaging in various activities.

A 3-minute video on the UDHR will be played as students receives a copy of the UDHR, and a "Human Rights Scenario" card. The "Human Rights Scenario" cards contain human rights violations of high school students from around the world. Members of the high school audience work together as a group in figuring out which Article of the UDHR is involved in the card they are holding.

The UNA Committee Chair will introduces the program, giving a brief background and relevance of the UDHR today.

Two University of California Berkeley students - members of the Human Rights Day Committee - will then speak for 5 minutes on current human rights issues facing high school students in different countries
