About Global Classrooms: Boston

The Global Classrooms Boston conference will be held on March 19, 2011 at Northeastern University.

It is with great honor that we invite you to the 2011 Global Classrooms: Boston Model United Nations Conference, sponsored by the United Nations Association of the USA and the United Nations Association of Greater Boston on March 19, 2011 at Northeastern University. Conference attendance is open to Global Classrooms schools - all public schools, both district and charter schools, from Boston, Cambridge, Chelsea, Everett, Lynn, Somerville, Revere, and Malden.

In 1994, the UNA-USA Greater Boston Chapter launched Bringing the World to Our Children, the centerpiece of its educational outreach efforts. Over the next several years, the chapter implemented the program in schools throughout the Boston area, including several BPS schools. In the spring of 1996, the curriculum was used by the Massachusetts Corporation for Educational Telecommunication (MCET) for a series of nationwide interactive broadcasts via satellite.

In 2001, a national team updated and transformed the curriculum, creating the present-day Global Classrooms program. Global Classrooms has been implemented in more than 35 schools in the Boston area, including many in the Boston Public Schools system. BPS schools participating in the program include Another Course to College, Charlestown High School, Excel High School and the Muriel Snowden International High School.

The Global Classrooms team offers the curriculum to Boston Public Schools free of charge. Teachers also receive extensive in-class support and professional development training. Finally, participating schools are invited to take part in the annual Global Classrooms: Boston Model UN conferences held at Northeastern University. To date, over 2000 middle and high school students have participated in the Global Classrooms: Boston Model UN conferences.

"Global Classrooms offers an exciting curriculum that promises to engage students, enrich the high school social studies program, and stimulate the sort of inquiry that enhances the educational goals of every classroom teacher." -Thomas W. Payzant, Former Superintendent, Boston Public Schools
