About Global Classrooms: Washington, DC

Global Classrooms: Washington, DC (GCDC) is an innovative educational program that engages middle and high school students in an exploration of current world issues through interactive simulations and curricular materials. GCDC cultivates literacy and leadership as students explore important topics such as peacekeeping, sustainable development and human rights.

During in-class mini-simulations of the United Nations (UN) Security Council and other UN organs, students tackle global issues and concerns including poverty, refugee protection and the environment as they role-play countries, interest groups, and non-governmental organization positions.

GCDC is implemented by the United Nations Association of the National Capital Area (UNA-NCA) and is a part of a nationwide initiative of the United Nations Association of the USA to bring Model UN into urban public schools. Using special curricular materials, up-to-date online and print resources, and comprehensive support and training for participating teachers, GCDC brings this experience to DC metropolitan area schools in dynamic ways.
