| About the Mulberry School for Girls
In 1965, plans were made to open a school dedicated to girls in the Tower Hamlets borough of London. Miss P.M. Friend, the Matron of the London Hospital officially opened what was then the Tower Hamlets School. It was later renamed the Mulberry School for Girls. The Mulberry School received its name from the scores of immigrants who populated East London including the French Huguenots, many of whom brought with them Mulberry trees for silk worms to feed off of in order to continue the very prosperous silk trade in London. The original Mulberry tree that the school is named for sits on the school property even today. Currently, the Mulberry School for Girls is a Community School with a role of over 1,350 students aged 11 to 19.
