| About the Los Angeles Unified School District | Global Classrooms: Los Angeles
The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) serves more than 730,000 students in Los Angeles and several neighboring cities, making the nation’s second largest school district. To accommodate the heavy enrollment, more than 200 LAUSD schools use a year-round calendar, in which vacation and instruction time is staggered. As the size of LA’s diverse student population increases, so does the city’s need for qualified, dedicated teachers and school support staff. LAUSD has a diverse student body and instructs many English language learners. The Global Classrooms® program is well-suited to this type of learning environment as it has been proven to be an effective tool for teaching literacy, speaking and writing skills. LAUSD’s students also gain confidence and poise as they progress through the Global Classrooms program. Global Classrooms is among the exceptional opportunities LAUSD offers for both teachers and students. The district sees teachers as shapers of the future and strives to provide a supportive and dynamic environment to help teachers make a difference in their students’ lives. LAUSD students also benefit from technology-enriched classrooms and class-size limits. LAUSD believes that educational reform and innovative instructional programs that are aligned to state standards are essential for students’ success. Altogether, the combination of these educational philosophies make the Global Classrooms program a superb fit for LAUSD.
