Carolina Hidalgo

Work with an experienced editor and make amazing friends. Eat awesome chocolate-chip cookies and grapefruit juice at the United Nations cafeteria. Skip the entire line of tourists at the visitor’s entrance with my NGO UN pass. Sit it on UN meetings and explore the Secretariat.

These are some of the things I've gotten to do during my internship with UNA-USA's publications department. While working on articles for UNA's bi-weekly e-news bulletin I also interviewed an African NGO director, got off-the-record insights from foreign diplomats, asked Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's new spokesperson about his job and questioned a Norwegian diplomat about the country's proposal to amend the Rome Statute.

I've written about the International Criminal Court, a UN-brokered program to make Western journals available in developing countries and the effects of coastal degradation in West Africa and received advice from a former New York Times UN Bureau chief. I helped copy edit UNA's annual report and rummaged through decades-old UNA news publications and policy reports
