About our speaker:

Dean Pittman is a career member of the Foreign Service who was appointed Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of International Organizations (IO) in December 2010. He served from 2009 to 2010 as the Senior Diplomacy Advisor for the Quadrennial Diplomacy and Development Review (QDDR). Prior to joining the QDDR team, he was a member of the Secretary of State’s Policy Planning Staff, where he was responsible for issues related to Europe and the Administration’s climate change agenda. Other domestic assignments have included Special Assistant to the Deputy Secretary of State (2002-2003), Director for the Balkans at the National Security Council (2000-2002), Legislative Management Officer for the East Asian and Pacific region in the Bureau of Legislative Affairs, and Thailand desk officer.

Pittman holds a Master of Arts degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, Washington, D.C., and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi.
