Human Rights and the UN

In 63 years since the ratification of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the world has made significant progress, and the UN continues to play a major role in the continuing struggle for human rights. UNA-USA and one of the foremost experts on the UN and human rights, Felice Gaer, Chair of UNA-USA's Leo Nevas Human Rights Task Force, discussed the overall human rights framework in the UN, the state of human rights in the world, and what the UN is doing to ensure universal rights for everyone.

About the Speaker

Felice D. Gaer is Chair of the Leo Nevas Human Rights Task Force, a program of the United Nations Association of the USA that provides leadership on human rights issues. She is the Director of the Jacob Blaustein Institute for the Advancement of Human Rights of the American Jewish Committee. Gaer is Vice Chair of the Committee Against Torture, the United Nations treaty-monitoring body that reviews government compliance with the Convention Against Torture, a treaty ratified by 149 countries. She is a Commissioner and Past Chair of the independent, bipartisan U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom.
