Schedule Today! In-District Advocacy Meetings Feb. 18-29

February 23, 2012
Federal budget season is upon us, and President Obama will submit his FY 2013 budget request to Congress in the coming weeks! UNA-USA Chapters need to make their voices heard by scheduling face-to-face meetings with their members of Congress to discuss the importance of full funding to the UN. In-district meetings are the most effective form of citizen advocacy and we are here to help you make it happen!

Let your members of Congress know that people in their district care about the UN! Schedule an in-district meeting with your elected official during the President's Day recess, Feb. 18-29.

UNA-USA has all the advocacy resources you need here. When you have scheduled your meeting. please inform the Membership Team at and we will help prepare you.

This year, there are additional pressures on UN funding and our commitment to engagement. Last year's budget battle left us with a hard cap on overall foreign assistance funding, meaning UN funding and foreign assistance programs will compete for the same dollars. Additionally, legislation introduced by Republican House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairwoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) would require the UN to adopt a voluntary budget model where countries selectively choose which UN activities to fund, undermining the UN's impartial legitimacy.

Despite budget pressures and attacks on U.S. engagement, leadership at the UN is essential to our foreign policy goals. Help ensure the U.S. remains engaged at the UN by scheduling your in-district meeting today!
