Seton Hall University Accepts Historical Documents of United Nations Association of the USAWilliam Noe Field Archives and Special Collections to house more than 60 years of UNA-USA historyJune 11, 2012 WASHINGTON – The historical documents of the United Nations Association of the USA (UNA-USA) have been accepted and will be kept at the Msgr. William Noe Field Archives & Special Collections Center at Seton Hall University. The holding of UNA-USA's archives builds upon the already rich 15-year relationship between the university and UNA-USA. "We are proud to say today that the history of UNA-USA will forever be preserved in the annals of one of the finest universities in the country," said Patrick Madden, UNA-USA executive director. "This next phase of our partnership with Seton Hall ensures that the more than 60-year history of UNA-USA remains accessible for generations to come." Several distinguished Americans have played major roles at UNA-USA over the past six decades; this is just one example of the rich history of the organization. These individuals include: Arthur J. Goldberg, former Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court and U.S. permanent representative to the United Nations; James S. McDonnell, former chairman of the McDonnell-Douglas Corporation; Elliot L. Richardson, former U.S. attorney general and U.S. representative to the Law of the Sea Conference; and John C. Whitehead, former deputy secretary of state. In 1997, UNA-USA and the university formed a partnership to establish the John C. Whitehead School of Diplomacy and International Relations at Seton Hall to advance the study of contemporary global issues. The school's alliance with UNA-USA has led to an innovative curriculum that combines academic study with the opportunity to experience firsthand multilateral diplomacy. "The Whitehead School is delighted to host the archives of this vital institution of the UN community," said Ambassador John Menzies, dean of the Whitehead School. "We look forward to preserving these archives as a testament to our partnership, which will ensure that our students and community members will benefit from the organization's rich history for many years to come." As part of their partnership, each year the Whitehead School and UNA-USA sponsor a week-long United Nations Intensive Summer Study Program for graduate and undergraduate students from around the globe to explore the political dynamic and inner workings of the UN. Participants attend official sessions at UN Headquarters, such as meetings of the Security Council, as well as briefings at the UNA-USA. UNA-USA Chapters and members that have materials they think belong in the archives can contact Alan Delozier, University archivist, Walsh Library, Seton Hall University at alan.delozier@shu.edu. ### Media Contact Joseph Catapano 202.294.9322 jcatapano@unausa.org
