West Triangle Chapter Announces Winners of Its Eighth Annual UN Contest for High School Students

The West Triangle Chapter recently honored eight students, as well as their parents and teachers, at their April Lunch and Learning meeting for their creation of original projects related to the mission of the United Nations Charter.

The winners announced were:

• First Place: Emily Powell and Amber Johnson, Carrboro High School, U.N. Involvement in Haiti.
• Second Place: Chi Le, East Chapel Hill High School, The United Nations and Its Role in the Fight Against HIV/AIDS.
• Third Place: Hannah Schwarz and Kristen Lee, Carrboro High School, Girls’ Education.
• Honorable Mentions: Yuyi Li and Christian Haig, East Chapel Hill High School, The United Nation’s Potential Role in the Somali Civil War. Akib Khan, East Chapel Hill High School, The United Nation’s Education Program.     

The top three winners received cash prizes, a certificate of achievement, and a UN pin. Projects were accepted from any discipline and took on a variety of forms such as essays, poems, songs, sculptures, and multi-media presentations.
