In an era of rapid technological change, heightened great power competition, and the fraying of traditional alliances, the international order that has overseen one of the most peaceful periods in human history is confronted by unprecedented challenges. While member states grapple with the utility and relevance of the United Nations in the twenty-first century, global fragility, conflict, and violence continue to escalate, exacting an enormous human toll. The imperative for collective global action to resolve the world’s most intractable conflicts has never been greater.

Hosted by USIP in partnership with the Stimson Center, UNA-NCA, and the Alliance for Peacebuilding, this public event will feature keynote remarks and a discussion with the UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo, the first woman ever to occupy this position, and the highest-ranking American official at the United Nations. Keynote remarks will be followed by a panel of experts.
