1. Call Capitol Hill at 1-855-466-4862. Using this number allows us to track your efforts! You will need to dial this number to reach your Members of Congress in the Senate.
  2. You will either be prompted to enter your zip code to be connected to your elected official, or you will be connected to an operator and can ask for your Member of Congress by name. If you don’t know who your Senators are, you can look it up here. Dial number ONE to reach the Senate.
  3. Once you are connected to the elected official’s office, tell the staff member who answers the phone that you have an opinion on the appropriations package regarding foreign aid (State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs) and ask to leave it for the Member of Congress.
  4. Keep in mind calls should only last a few minutes! Deliver your talking points/script, summarized below.
  5. Ask your Members of Congress to NOT support the funding levels in the House State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Appropriations bill for Fiscal Year 2025 and instead champion full funding for the United Nations as outlined in the President’s Budget Request. Please make sure to request a response indicating the member’s position on this matter.
  6. You may also ask if the staffer requires any follow-up information.  Please let us know by emailing Maria Amalla (Grassroots Advocacy Manager) at mamalla@unfoundation.org

SCENARIO A: IF YOU ARE CONNECTED LIVE TO A STAFFER

Hi, my name is [Your Name], and I’m a constituent and voter from [zip code] How are you?

I’m a member of the United Nations Association of the USA, a grassroots movement of Americans supporting the U.N.’s work. Today, I’m calling because the House of Representatives voted on the State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs (SFOPS) bill for FY’25, which makes unprecedented cuts to U.S. funding for the UN.

I am asking [Your Member of Congress’ Name] to not support the funding levels provided in the House State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs (SFOPS) bill for FY’25 and instead champion full funding for the United Nations as outlined in the President’s Budget Request. We must maintain the United States’ vote in the U.N. General Assembly and cannot turn our backs on millions who look to U.N. programs for food, health, and education.

[INSERT SHORT PERSONAL REASONS FOR YOUR SUPPORT FOR THE U.N.]

You know your Members of Congress and district best. Consider what makes your community unique and how that might motivate your elected officials’ decision-making process. Below select 1-2 facts (fact sheet here) or from the 2024 Congressional Briefing Book to support the ask.

[WAIT FOR RESPONSE, IF ANY]

Thanks for the opportunity to share my opinion. The best email to reach me is [Your Email]. I look forward to receiving your response!
