Meet the 2017-2018 Campus Fellows!

Meet the 2017-2018 GenUN Fellows! The GenUN Fellowship program provides UNA-USA students with the opportunity to act on global issues while developing their skills as UNA-USA leaders. As the field organizers of UNA’s campus chapter network, Fellows play a key role in expanding UNA-USA’s reach across the nation. 

Gabriel Risk Martins

Western Region – gabrielriskm@gmail.com

Gabriel Risk Martins is a senior at San Francisco State University majoring in Economics and International Relations. He is the president of the SFSU GenUN Campus Chapter and the Acting Student Representative to the Board of Directors of the UNA-USA San Francisco Chapter. In addition, Gabriel is the Vice President of External Affairs for SFSU’s Associated Students and a member of the Finance Committee for the California State Student Association. Gabriel is a passionate learner who is currently learning his fourth language. He is an intern at the San Francisco Center for Economic Development and aspires to continue his studies in International Economics and International Affairs as a graduate student. Gabriel loves basketball and was a member of the SFSU basketball team.

Rabita Tareque

Rabita Tareque is majoring in International Studies and minoring in Public Policy & Public Affairs at The City College of New York. Last year, Rabita took the initiative to start the UNA campus chapter in order to engage and mobilize students to support the vital work of the UN. Furthermore, as an Intern at the Permanent Observer Mission of the OIC to the UN, she participated in various high-level meetings and worked closely with UN officials and representatives. Lastly, she is building a non-profit campaign to assist young women refugees & migrants and her project have been accepted by the 2017 Clinton Global Initiative-University.

Pamela Ashwood

Pamela Ashwood is originally from Arlington, Texas. Go Cowboys! She moved to Denton to attend the University of North Texas. She is an International Studies student with a concentration in International Security and Diplomacy with a minor in French. She is also a member of the Gen UN chapter at UNT, in connection to the Model United Nations/Model Arab league Organization. She is President of a women’s leadership political organization called IGNITE. In her free time, I love to listen to political podcasts like Pod Save America or comedic YouTube videos from YouTubers like Dan & Phil. She also volunteers for various political campaigns that boast a message of gender parity and equality for all. Pamela aspires to make the world a brighter place, one smile at a time.

Mary McGee

Midwestern Region – mary.mcgee@siu.edu

Mary McGee is a junior studying English Literature and Psychology at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. She is the President of the GenUN chapter at SIU and continues to work to help grow the SIU chapter and engage students in raising awareness for human rights violations and advocating for creating a better, safer, and equal world for everyone. Currently, she hopes to start working on creating more chapters at colleges around the Midwest Region, making more chapter resources, and helping other chapters create strong leadership teams. Through this fellowship, Mary aims to help unite different UNA chapters around the Midwest as well as make sure that chapters have all of the resources they need in order to create even stronger chapters that are able to make a monumental difference throughout the world.
