George Hampton

George Hampton is Executive Director for Global Policy and Multilateral Initiatives at the United Nations Foundation. In this role, he acts as a policy entrepreneur, leading UN Foundation’s day-to-day engagement with the UN and its partners on topics related to the future of multilateralism, collective challenges, the SDGs, and other emerging issues.

Before joining the UN Foundation, George was Senior Advisor to the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Sustainable Energy for All, working on climate, energy and development.

George was previously a New Zealand diplomat based at the New Zealand Permanent Mission to the UN in New York. He has served as Campaign Adviser to UN Secretary-General candidate Helen Clark, a Political Advisor to the New Zealand Prime Minister, and Private Secretary to the New Zealand Cabinet Minister for Disarmament and Arms Control. Throughout his time in the foreign ministry, George was responsible for desks on trade, Asia-Pacific, and international security.

George was a Fulbright Scholar to Columbia University and a Gleitsman Leadership Fellow to the Harvard Kennedy School. He holds degrees in law, history, diplomacy, and international relations (First Class Honors), and a master’s degree in international economic policy and management.

George is married with a daughter and a poodle.
