Celebrating Climate Leadership: Dr. Emily Geest Recognized for Advancing Life on Land
As a UNA-USA Global Goals Ambassador (GGA) for Sustainable Development Goal 15: Life on Land, Dr. Emily Geest continues to champion conservation and biodiversity protection across Oklahoma City and beyond.
This spring marks several meaningful accomplishments which highlight her environmental leadership and community impact.

Mayor’s Award for Distinguished Service
Dr. Geest has been named a recipient of the Mayor’s Award from OKC Beautiful. The award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated a dedication to improving the beauty and environmental health of Oklahoma City.
This honor reflects Dr. Geest’s ongoing work to advance conservation initiatives, restore and safeguard ecosystems, and strengthen community engagement, all central components of SDG 15: Life on Land.
Alumni University Feature on Conservation & Global Goals
Dr. Geest was also recently interviewed by one of her alumni universities to discuss:
- Conservation and biodiversity protection
- The importance of protecting ecosystems at the local level
- Her work as a UNA-USA Global Goals Ambassador for SDG 15

405 Magazine Feature
Dr. Geest was featured in the March 2026 issue of 405 Magazine for her innovative work in conservation and environmental education. Since 2018, she has led the Living Classrooms Grant Program at the Oklahoma City Zoo, engaging local schools in hands-on learning about ecosystems and wildlife.
A key focus of her program has been the protection and study of monarch butterflies, helping students understand biodiversity, habitat restoration, and the importance of pollinator conservation. Through this initiative, Dr. Geest has reached dozens of classrooms, inspiring a new generation of conservation-minded students and fostering active stewardship of Oklahoma’s natural landscapes.

Advancing SDG 15: Life on Land
Sustainable Development Goal 15 focuses on protecting, restoring, and promoting sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems; sustainably managing forests; combating desertification; and halting biodiversity loss.
