Join this UNA-USA members-only session on Careers at the UN. Current and former UN employees will share their experiences apply to and working for the United Nations in various departments. This program is hosted by UNA-USA and the UNA-USA UN Alums Affinity Group. Register here.

Speakers will include:

Ms. Joan Ampah, Associate HR Officer

Joan is currently serving as an Associate HR Officer in the Staffing, Diversity & Outreach Section in the Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance in New York Headquarters of the United Nations Secretariat.

Joan Joined the UN on the General service level and is a successful candidate of the UN Young Professional’s Program (YPP). During her long career within the UN, she worked in various capacities in Management and Administration and has extensive experience in Human Resources Benefits and Entitlements. She also served as a UN recruiter for many years.

Ms. Salena Brown, HR Assistant, Talent Outreach

Salena brings a rich blend of credentials, training, culture, and passion to the work she does at the United Nations.

She currently serves in the Staffing Diversity and Outreach Section, Office of Human Resources (OHR) – New York where she contributes to the Section’s mandate of raising awareness about the UN as an employer of choice.

Salena previously worked in the Learning, Leadership and Organizational Development Section, OHR where she was primarily responsible for the design, development, and delivery of customized training to meet departments’ operational requirements and staff development needs.

Mr. Boyd Haight, UNA-Monterey Bay

Boyd Haight first became involved with the work of the United Nations as a Peace Corps and UN Volunteer fish culturist in the Central African Republic (1976-1979). After graduate studies including work with the US Department of Energy, he joined the staff of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and worked for 13 years on inland fisheries and aquaculture development in East and Southern Africa (1983-1995), based in Kenya, Zambia and Zimbabwe. In 1996 he was assigned to FAO headquarters in Rome, where he worked for 22 years in senior technical, policy and management positions. He retired from FAO at the end 2017, returned to the USA and became involved with UNA-USA to advocate for multilateral approaches to peace, security and development.

Ms. Eva Jansen, HR Officer Talent Outreach

Eva is currently the team lead of the Outreach Section in the Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance in New York Headquarters of the United Nations Secretariat.

Previously she held a variety of positions in New York and in other duty stations. She has worked in the Department of General Assembly and Conference Affairs (in Geneva, Switzerland), at the United Nations Independent Investigation Commission (in Lebanon), in the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime as well as the United Nations Office in Vienna (Austria), where she started her career with the United Nations.
