DESCRIPTION

UN DAY ‘23: ARTIST AND ACTIVIST ARN CHORN POND ON THE TRANSFORMATIVE POWER OF THE ARTS IN HUMAN RIGHTS The UNA Pasadena Chapter’s UN Day celebration will take place at Polytechnic School on Tuesday, October 23 for 6-7:15. This year we will commemorate the 75 years of the UDHR (Universal Declaration of Human Rights). Our keynote speaker will be the renowned human rights activist, musician, and Cambodian genocide survivor, Arn Chorn Pond. As the subject of the award-winning memoir Never Fall Down, the PBS documentary The Flute Player, and the founder of Cambodian Living Arts, Arn inspires change with incredible stories of hope, endurance, and survival through the power of music. Arn will tell us the riveting story of how music saved his life, about the role of the arts in transforming society on a wider scale, especially in post-conflict contexts, and how the re- emergence of arts in Cambodia can be a model for other countries. We will also honor the winners of the Pasadena UN video challenge and screen their films.
