The United Nations Association of Saint Louis will host a local Universal Periodic Review Consultation to constructively set the agenda on a human rights challenge in the United States, collaborate with like-minded partners, and help catalyze change in the U.S. through a universal UN process. The resulting feedback from this consultation will be included in the United States’ official 2020 Universal Periodic Review report to the UN Human Rights Council. The focus of this specific consultation will be on the socioeconomic impact of the incarceration of African-American women, with emphasis on trauma, education, diversion and re-entry within the criminal justice system. Guest expert speakers include The SoulFisher Ministries Founder and CEO Shawntelle Fisher, St. Louis County Prosecutor Wesley Bell, St. Louis Community College – Florissant Valley President Dr. Elizabeth Perkins, Senator Jamilah Nasheed, and UM – St. Louis Dept. of Criminology and Criminal Justice Professor Beth Huebner.
