Vanessa Barboni Hallik’s journey to launching Another Tomorrow began in small artistic and academic communities in the Midwest and Rust Belt of the United States, with her artist mother and sociology professor father. After graduating from Cornell, she moved to New York City, and rose to Managing Director at Morgan Stanley, working predominantly in emerging markets. Through this work, she developed an ingrained appreciation that we are all part of an integrated universal society, a practical understanding of supply chains and global markets, and expertise building and growing successful businesses.
While at Morgan Stanley, Vanessa served as a trustee on the Board of the Morgan Stanley Foundation and chaired the Fixed Income Philanthropy Committee where she initiated and subsequently led the firm’s mentoring program with East Side Community High School, a public school in the East Village of Manhattan, in partnership with PENCIL.org.
Vanessa took a six-month sabbatical at the end of 2017, with the intention of pivoting to sustainable finance. Early on, while researching the most impactful industries, she was taken aback by how significant the fashion industry loomed and quickly “fell down a rabbit hole researching all the repercussions of apparel supply chains.”
“There were things I learned that I couldn’t just ‘unknow’” she explained. “We would not choose the tomorrow we are on the path towards.”
She chose to pursue building a brand with an educational and advocacy platform because, “as a customer, after educating myself, I couldn’t find information or product that aligned with my values at any price point. The more I researched the industry, it seemed incongruous that something so personal was made in a way that was so inconsistent with who I am.”
Launched in January 2020, Another Tomorrow is a ready-to-wear brand operating at the intersection of sustainability, ethics, and design. Built on a foundation of community, transparency, and organic scarcity; empathy for the Earth and its inhabitants is the common thread, with every decision guided by a value system based on three pillars – human, animal, and environmental welfare.
Another Tomorrow’s masterfully tailored separates push the boundaries of what responsibly grown, and ethically manufactured materials can achieve. Each garment features a unique digital identity that provides immediate transparency on its provenance and lifecycle, powered by a partnership with EVRYTHNG, the Product Cloud which allows brands to digitize products at scale.
Vanessa is also an investor in early-stage companies with strong ESG commitments and potential to catalyze positive change, and currently serves on the New York Advisory Board for the Trust for Public Land.
Vanessa holds a B.A. in Economics from Cornell University and is an M.S. candidate in Sustainability Management at Columbia University’s Earth Institute. She resides in New York City with her family and two dogs.
