The latest United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report shows that even temporarily exceeding global warming of 1.5°C (2.7°F) will severely impact nature, some of which will be irreversible. We have the knowledge and technology to address climate change, but we cannot wait! As we approach COP27, we must fulfill our commitments to the next generation by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Please support bold climate action

Dear [elected official],

Human-induced climate change has caused widespread losses and damage to nature and people, which you’ve probably witnessed within our district or state. After all, approximately 3.3 to 3.6 billion people live in areas that are highly vulnerable to climate change. It’s not hard to recognize the interdependence of climate ecosystems, biodiversity, and people. Yet, we still have not taken the necessary actions to mitigate the effects of climate change. The United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report states that we need to reduce emissions to the level seen in the pandemic year after year to address climate change. As a significant contributor to carbon emissions, the United States has the moral obligation to provide leadership to combat climate change. The good news is we are capable of actions that create a more sustainable world.

The longer we put off action, the bigger the feasibility challenge. As my elected official, I urge you to ensure that the U.S. delivers on our commitments at the 27th Conference of the Parties of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) and prioritizes supporting a healthier planet by proposing additional federal regulatory action to bridge the gaps in the climate bill.

Sincerely, [Your information here]
