Announcing Sophia Kianni as the 2023-2024 UNA-USA Advisor
Washington, D.C. (July 5 , 2023) — The United Nations Association of the USA (UNA-USA) has appointed Sophia Kianni as Advisor for a one-year, renewable term. As UNA-USA Advisor, Sophia will help to support UNA-USA’s mission to educate, inspire, and mobilize Americans in support of bolstering a strong US-UN partnership.
In her role, Sophia will help to leverage her experience as the youngest member of the UN Secretary-General’s Youth Advisory Group and as founder of Climate Cardinals in her role as Advisor to the United Nations Association of the USA (UNA-USA). She will also help to expand UNA-USA’s reach with her social media network and increase UNA-USA’s position as a movement that brings together multigenerational advocates who support full U.S. funding for the UN, actualizing the Sustainable Development Goals, and further increasing awareness about the UN to Americans.
Sophia Kianni is an Iranian-American social entrepreneur and activist studying at Stanford University. She is the founder and executive director of Climate Cardinals, the world’s largest youth-led climate nonprofit, with 9,000 volunteers in 40+ countries. She is also the youngest United Nations advisor in U.S. history. Sophia is a prolific storyteller who has spoken at universities and conferences across the world. She won the TED global idea competition, and her debut TED Talk has 2+ million views. She has been named VICE Media’s youngest Human of the Year, a National Geographic Young Explorer, and a Forbes 30 under 30 honoree. Sophia is part of the United Nations Association of the USA (UNA-USA) movement, serving as the organization’s Global Goals Ambassador for SDG#13 (Climate Action) and as the first UNA-USA Advisor.
