Task Force to UN: Keep Leading on LGBT Rights

Acknowledging the exceptional and courageous leadership of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in advancing LGBT rights, the Task Force invited the secretary-general to address violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in his February 2014 address to the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Later at the launch of the Olympics in Sochi, the secretary general specifically referenced the need to protect LGBT human rights declaring, “We must all raise our voices against attacks on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or intersex people” and that “Hatred of any kind must have no place in the 21st century.”
