UNA-USA Statement on the Conflict in the Middle East

In the wake of the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza, UNA-USA calls upon governments and non-state actors in the Middle East to recognize their duty to protect all innocent life. To date, a staggering 30,000 Palestinians have been killed, with tens of thousands more enduring injuries without access to essential medical care. Civilians, including over 1,200 Israelis, tragically lost their lives at the hands of Hamas on October 7th. Others are still held hostage, dealing with the psychological toll of captivity.

We ask UNA-USA members and the public to join our call for Congress to support a humanitarian ceasefire in the Middle East.

It is also in Congress’s interest to resume funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). UNRWA remains uniquely positioned to address the pressing humanitarian needs in Gaza, as no other organization or agency possesses the capacity to effectively mitigate the immense suffering taking place.
