Maya Moucharrafie is the new Associate, Membership and Operations of the United Nations Association of the USA (UNA-USA). She earned her B.A. in Global Studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, with minors in Arabic Studies and Legal Studies, along with an International Development Studies Certificate, in May 2023.

During her university years, Maya dedicated herself to various nonprofit organizations. Notably, she played a pivotal role in UNICEF USA, where she served as a Community Engagement and Diaspora & Multicultural Partnerships Intern and a National Youth Representative, Midwest. At the University of Illinois, Maya organized two UNICEF Galas, each drawing over 120 attendees, where she led event production, moderated Q&A panels, and managed multi-platform promotions—ultimately raising more than $7,291 to support humanitarian efforts in Lebanon, Ukraine, and Afghanistan. Her involvement with UNICEF truly ignited her passion for human rights, children’s welfare, and refugee advocacy work.

Maya became a UNA-USA Member in 2024. Prior to that, Maya worked with UNA-USA’s sister campaign, Shot@Life, where she managed individual fundraising efforts, event logistics, and budget planning and reporting.

Maya finds joy in traveling, learning about the diverse cultures and wonders of our world, indulging in new cuisine, and spending quality time with friends and family.
